Week 16: Hunger Games!

Standard

“Your baby is around 5 inches long and weighs around 5 ounces. The veins that have been showing through your baby’s skin are becoming less obvious as fat formation begins. Even though your baby has had taste buds for quite a while, its only now that it can really make out differences in flavour. Your baby is now the same size as the placenta. The menconium is forming in your baby’s bowl. Your baby is big enough to fit into the palm of your hand and is about the same size as an orange.

Your breasts are continuing to grow and may begin to show signs of stretch marks. Your pregnancy is becoming more visible now that your uterus is the size of a melon.”- My Pregnancy App- Health & Parenting Ltd

I can’t believe I’m 16 weeks already! This pregnancy’s going really quickly- thank god! I just hope I wiz through to week 30 then maybe I can start relaxing by a few millimetres! Although I’m happy this seems to be going speedily, as I get further along I get more concerned. I’m now only 8 weeks away from D-Day- the time that I went into prem labour last time.

Randomly we booked a holiday before I knew I was pregnant- just a cottage in England, only 2 hours away and it turns out this break is over weeks 23-24. I don’t know if this is going to be a good thing or a bad thing. I’m hoping it will work as a distraction for me but at the same time I’m really anxious that it’s a bad idea. What if I go into premature labour in Swanage, 2 hours away from my hospital with my parents flapping around? STRESS! I make a not to run this past my consultant at my next appointment. Maybe she will have something to say that will comfort me.

Something amazing happened at the end of last week! We went to visit my brother and sister-in-law on boxing day and they did a spread- potato salad, pita pizzas, cheese and crackers and salad amongst the offerings- I had two plate fulls! Yes the appetite is back! Hurrah! Baby must be partial to Uncle Daniel’s potato salad as it was the first time I’ve finished a meal in weeks and weeks, let alone had 2 servings!

I find with every extra morsel of food I’m able to swallow my mood improves 3 fold! Whilst my appetite isn’t completely recovered (every now and then I swing back to reacting like every plateful of food is a plate of dog food) I can definitely eat more, which is fantastic!

In even better news baby seems to have a taste for Italian which is fine by me, as it just so happens to be my favourite cuisine! In celebration of this monument us occasion, I have decided to post a link to a pregnancy friendly meal every week starting soon, so keep your eye’s peeled!

More great news this week, it’s the week of New Year’s which means I have the whole week off- 9 days in a row of no work- Joy! I’m about halfway through this glorious break and not once have I woke up voluntarily before 11.00am- Bliss! A tiny voice tells me I must make the most of this!

photo 2-2New Year’s Eve was better than predicted. I was expecting my first new years in Christ-knows-how-long- sober to be a fairly dull affair but I was pleasantly surprised! Great company, tasty food, I managed to stay awake until 2am; I even treated myself to a glass of bucks fizz! What more can you ask for?

I have a few more New Year’s resolutions to add to my list- this always happens. I start the year with about 12 things on my list that I want to do and end up achieving all of 3 of them by the end of the year! But the rule with me is, the more I have at the start the more I end up accomplishing- so here goes:

  1. Take a picture every day for a year- something I’ve wanted to do for ages and it’s on my bucket list so why not?
  2. Stop pulling out my hair- this is on there every year and I never manage to stop!
  3. Cross at least 4 things off my bucket list- any 4 things.
  4. Go a whole year without forgetting a family member or friend’s birthday- this is a lifelong challenge for me!
  5. Get the savings account looking healthier!

Add these to the four I had last week…

  1. Take up yoga.
  2. Start using breathing techniques.
  3. De-clutter the flat.
  4. Limit the amount of time I spend with people who piss me off!

And of course…

  1. Keep on track with my blog.

This gives me a grand total of 10 resolutions- let’s keep up the positive thinking and fingers crossed ill clear them all… or at least most of them! Only time will tell!

We finally got to meet our midwife this week. All of our previous appointments have been covered by temporary midwifes- Thankfully, she’s really nice! Always a good start! We’ll be seeing her again at 26 weeks.

In regards to pregnancy symptoms, I’m happy to report all vomiting and nausea has subsided! In fact the only symptoms I’m left with are indigestion and restless legs at this point! A positive start to the New Year 🙂

Highlight of the week? Mr W’s birthday and a nice trip to cosmos! 😀

Low of the week? Bar a few little stress attacks-nothing to report! PMA!
